On 31 August 2026 Surfshark detected unauthorized access to an internal test server that a configuration error had left reachable from the internet. It contained the breach on 2 September and published an incident report on 9 September. Surfshark says no user data or VPN traffic was affected, it rotated the build credentials that were exposed, and it has promised a new independent security audit. It stays on our list.
